Advisory Service

The Building & Development Advisory Services team (B+DAS) role is:

  • To educate, inform and advise the community of Council’s environmental standards, polices and procedures
  • To provide specialist information on development proposals
  • To provide a professional service to the community in relation to areas such as prelodgement.

B+DAS in conjunction with Customer Service, provides front end development and building information, through a range of avenues. If you are building or developing land within the City of Ryde, feel free to come in and see us or contact us by phone or email.

A duty officer, a staff member with either Planning or Building qualifications, is also available for information on zonings, development control plans and general development information. A more complex appraisal of proposed plans or a proposal for redevelopment of land may require attendance at a prelodgement meeting.

Simple enquiries are able to be made by phone. However more complex planning or building discussions may require you to come into the Council for one of the services listed below:

Prelodgement Meetings

This service is aimed at larger, complex residential and commercial developments. A prelodgement meeting provides the prospective applicant with the opportunity to discuss and receive feedback from Council on the technical and merit aspects of a development proposal.

Urban Design Review Panel

This service is for residential apartment buildings of 3 storeys or above in height; major developments within the town centres; new major developments throughout the City of Ryde, where the design of the proposed development is considered by a panel of experts prior to the lodgement of the development application.

Lodgement Interviews

Council has introduced a lodgement interview to assist in the efficient processing of major or complex development applications.

Written Advice

B+DAS can offer written advice via email or mail, on planning or building matters. However there is a fee applicable for some correspondence.
