Wrap With Love Knitting By Numbers

Published on 27 June 2017

The knitting needles are running hot in preparation for this year’s Wrap With Love Knit-In at Ryde Library on Friday 4 August, 10.00am – 2.00pm.

Every year local knitters and Council staff combine their skill and generosity to create beautiful hand-knitted blankets that are sent all over the world to bring warmth and comfort to people in need.

City of Ryde Local Studies Librarian, Angela Phippen, who coordinates the annual knit-a-thon, says:  “It takes 28 squares to make up a blanket and over the past ten years our knitters have made and donated an astonishing 3,816 hand-knitted blankets to the annual Wrap With Love charity event.

“With 70 knitters working around the clock and many more working from home, we are confident we will reach this year’s target of 400 wraps, but we can always do with more willing hands.”

There is still time to join a knitting group at one of our libraries:

  • Gladesville Library:  every Monday in July 5.30-7.30pm
  • Eastwood Library:  Wednesday 19 July 10.30am – 12.30 -12.30pm
  • West Ryde Library:  Thursday 13 and 27 July 1.00  – 3.00am

Wrap With Love Knit-In:  Friday 4 August, 10.00am – 2.00pm.  Ryde Library, 1 Pope Street, Ryde.  Tea and coffee provided.

A selection of completed wraps will be on display in Ryde Library from 10.00am Monday 31 July until 5.00 pm Sunday 6 August.
