SecondHand Saturday Garage Sales
One person's trash is another person's treasure. SecondHand Saturday is a garage sale held within your premises which takes place before a scheduled Council Cleanup Collection. By participating in SecondHand Saturday residents are helping to reduce the amount of unwanted items going to landfill as well as putting a little cash back in their pocket.
How does it work?
- Council holds five scheduled Council Cleanup Collections in each Zone per year.
- If you don't already know your Zone - check the map - you can zoom in to find your street if necessary
- Once you have your correct Zone - check the Waste Collection Calendar to find out the dates of the scheduled Cleanup Collections in your Zone
- The weekend prior to a scheduled cleanup, you are invited to hold a SecondHand Saturday event and then place items not sold out for the Cleanup Collection.
Registered SecondHand Saturday events will receive a pack including tips on hosting a successful garage sale and poster to promote your event.
Council will also promote your garage sale for free in the Northern District Times and on the Council's website.
To ensure that your event is included in the Northern District Times, registration must be received at least 14 days prior to your garage sale. Materials not sold can then be left out on your nature strip for your household cleanup collection in accordance with restrictions.
