International Permaculture Day - Local Open Garden Event

Take this rare opportunity to view a pioneering and extensive local garden designed according to Permaculture principles. This design approach provides insights into effective, eco-friendly, sustainable and synergistic gardening.

The event features regular guided garden walks by a local gardening expert and some informative talks and live practical demonstrations.

Program

10.20 am - 10.40 am: Guided Garden Tour

11.00 am - 12.00 am: Introduction to Permaculture Gardening for a Sustainable Lifestyle - Margaret will talk about the basics of Permaculture Gardening which she applies to her own backyard and provide a hands on demo of some of the home-made food or beauty products she makes from her garden produce. She’ll share some great practical tips! Followed by Biodynamic Gardening – Fay will present and demonstrate a simple and inexpensive way to improve soil fertility. There will be time for questions and answers and the talks and practical demonstrations will be followed by a guided garden walk at noon.

12.00 pm - 12.20 pm: Guided Garden Tour

1.00 pm - 1.30 pm: Health and Healing with Garden Herbs – Ann will explore multi-purpose, easy to grow herbs and their health supporting properties.

2.20 pm - 2.50 pm: Guided Garden Tour

3.20 pm - 3.50 pm: Guided Garden Tour

About the Speakers

Margaret Mossakowska is a local gardener and President of Permaculture Sydney North. She learned many forgotten skills in growing natural produce and making natural products, during her childhood in rural Poland, and is passionate about sharing her wisdom. Margaret runs a sustainable gardening education organisation called Moss House.

Fay Brender is a Director of Biodynamics Sydney, an organisation that aims to counter environmental and soil degradation by promoting sustainable gardening and farming  practices.

Ann Taylor is a naturopathic nutritionist whose goal is to promote good health through primary prevention of illness and physiological dysfunction, taking account of individual genetic susceptibilities, environmental toxicity and nutritional status. Her clinic is Sunny Side Health and Wellbeing.
