Social Inclusion Campaign Launch

The City of Ryde is committed to developing inclusive communities and will be celebrating and promoting Social Inclusion Week from 21 to 29 November and International Day of People with a Disability on 3 December 2015. Join us for a morning tea and hear from our inspirational guest speaker Laura O’Reilly.

Guest Speaker: Laura O’Reilly

In 2011 Laura and her second sibling Jordan co-founded Fighting Chance after watching their younger brother Shane who was born with brain damage, struggle as a person with a disability. This non-profit organisation exists to create opportunities for young adults with significant disabilities in Australia.  In just under five years, the O’Reillys have grown Fighting Chance into an organization which provides daily services to 95 young adults with high support needs and which is quickly developing a reputation in the sector as a creative and innovative service provider.

Laura is also a graduate of Cambridge University and, in addition to her work with Fighting Chance, is currently studying law at UNSW, where she has won the Deans Prize for academic excellence in 2012 and 2013. In September 2014 Laura was awarded the Australian Woman’s Weekly Woman of the Future 2014.
