The City of Ryde is committed to achieving strong democratic practice by building long-term, meaningful engagement between Council and the community.
To help us achieve this goal, we have an Engagement Policy and an Engagement Framework.
What is Community engagement?
Engagement is the provision of activities and other opportunities for residents, stakeholders and Council officers to provide input, feedback, advice and ideas on projects, plans or services that Council is developing or delivering.
This will ensure that Council is informed of the needs and aspirations of the people of the City of Ryde, who can assist in determining and identifying priority services and facilities. The result is that the needs of the community are agreed and met.
The goal of the policy and framework is to foster public participation by creating the conditions for citizens and Council to work together skillfully and respectfully to maintain a vibrant democracy in the City of Ryde.
Commitments
The Engagement Policy and Framework both reflect the following commitments:
-
We value input and feedback
-
We want you to be involved
-
We will provide a variety of activities to encourage you to be involved
-
We will tell you what we have done with your contributions
-
We will make it as convenient as we can
-
Being involved is your choice
-
Our engagement with you will be based on mutual respect.
Community Survey 2008
The overall result of Council’s performance from the Community Satisfaction Survey conducted in November 2008 is an improvement from two years ago.
Council would like to acknowledge the extensive support it receives from the community and is keen to continue working with the community to ensure the community’s money is spent on projects and works that are considered to be of highest importance.
The areas where you are most satisfied with our performance are:
-
Regular garbage and recycling collection
-
Kerbside rubbish collection

The areas identified by you as needing attention and a priority are:

This feedback is very useful in helping us set our priorities and to make sure we are delivering on the community's expectations and will be included in the Management Plan for 2009-2013. We welcome your continued feedback on how we can improve our performance.
