The Social Plan 2005 has been developed in response to the Local Government (General) Amendment (Community and Social Plans) Regulation 1998, that requires all Councils in New South Wales to develop a Social or Community Plan every five years. Local government is also required to provide an annual summary of activities recording its implementation of the Social Plan within the Access and Equity statement of the Management Plan.  

Social planning is considered to be a vital corporate tool to provide Council with a strategic planning framework to guide Council in the provision of appropriate and accessible services and facilities to meet the social needs of people within Ryde in a fair and equitable manner. 

It is envisaged that the Social Plan 2005 will increase accountability, guide the future development of the community and assist effective partnerships with other Government and non-Government agencies.

The Social Plan 2005 is a product of a systemic process that identifies community need, prioritises actions and develops programs, projects and activities to deliver outcomes that will enhance the well-being of the community. 

To date the process has involved over 1100 residents in focus groups and social research.

Aboriginal Needs Paper December 2005 download (PDF 2MB)	This paper explores the issues affecting Aboriginal people in Ryde. It includes a brief Aboriginal history of Ryde that is an abstract from the paper Wallumedegal - An Aboriginal History of Ryde written by Keith Vincent Smith. Recommendations focus on building relationships, Aboriginal cultural heritage and social needs of Aboriginal people including employment, education, health, housing, children, families and young people.

Cultural and Linguistically Diverse People's Needs Paper  November 2004 download (PDF 2MB)	This paper focuses on the needs of people from a culturally and linguistically diverse background. It provides a brief demographic description showing the diversity of people who live in Ryde, an assessment of needs and includes a number of recommendations intended to assist in addressing those needs.

Men's Needs Paper June 2005 download  (PDF 2.5MB)	This needs paper highlights the main issues affecting men. It identifies their needs and makes recommendations to address the unmet needs.
Older People's Needs Paper September 2004 download (PDF 1.8MB)	This paper identifies the unmet needs and issues for older people living in the Ryde Local Government Area (LGA). The paper also presents a list of recommendations and strategies to address the identified needs for the older residents of Ryde.
People with a Disability Needs Paper July 2005 download (PDF 1.6MB)	This paper explores the issues affecting people with a disability and their families/carers in Ryde. It is written within the social model of disability with a human rights perspective. Recommendations focus on the need to remove barrier that limit the participation or impinge on the rights of people with a disability in the Ryde community.
Social Plan 2000 Assessment December 2005 download (PDF 263KB)	This is an assessment of the City of Ryde Social Plan 2000. It provides information on the implementation and effectiveness of the access and equity activities and recommendations in Social Plan 2000 as well as the methodology.
Social Planning Framework 2005 - 2010 February 2006 download (PDF 369KB)	This Framework includes all the recommendations from the Needs Papers – Social Plan 2005, Children, Older People,  Young People, Cultural & Linguistically Diverse People, Women, Men, People with a Disability and Aboriginal People. To assist the implementation process and to action recommendations made in the Social Plan 2005, the Social Planning Framework correlates issues, identifies strategies, prioritise’s recommendations and determines budgetary requirements.
