AskNow logoAskNow is a collaborative service offered by over 100 librarians from National and State Libraries of Australasia, providing information and research help. Ask Now is a virtual reference service staffed by librarians in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. It aims to provide high quality information to users, with the convenience of immediate, online communication. By completing a web form users can submit a question and chat to a librarian who will help find high quality information. During a session, the librarian can "push" websites and other information directly to the user's computer while chatting. Librarians can also initiate a co-browse session with a user, which allows both parties to see the same screen.

Biography Resource Center - combines reliable biographies on more than 320000 people from Gale group sources and full text articles from hundreds of periodicals. You can search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender or you can combine criteria. Very useful for general information or for students doing assignments.

Consumer Health Complete - contains full text articles covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine. Topics include aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs and alcohol, fitness, nutrition and dietetics, children's health and men and women's health.

Health and Wellness Resource Centre and Alternative Health Module - this database provides access to magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories for reliable information on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, occupational health and safety, alcohol and drug abuse, prescription drugs, herbal remedies, and alternative or complementary treatments etc. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases. Pandora - - Australia's Web Archive - a growing collection of Australian online publications. A built in collaboration with nine other Australian libraries and cultural collecting organisations.

Music Australia - helps you to find, access and navigate a rich store of information on Australian music, musicians, organisations and services from a single access point. You can find music scores, sound recordings, websites and a range of other music-related material held by a large number of Australia's cultural institutions or described by specialist music services. MusicAustralia includes all formats, styles and genres, and both heritage and contemporary music. You can also find information about people and organisations.  

 Newspapers 

17th and 18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers - newspapers, pamphlets, and books gathered by the Reverend Charles Burney (1757-1817) representing the largest and most comprehensive collection of early English news media, totalling almost
1 million pages and contains approximately 1,270 titles. Newly digitized, all Burney treasures are now fully text-searchable in Gale Digital Collection.

19th Century British Library Newspapers - containing of the full runs of 48 newspapers specially selected by the British Library to best represent nineteenth century Britain. This collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Special attention was paid to include newspapers that helped lead particular political or social movements such as Reform, Chartism, and Home Rule.

Sydney Morning Herald Archives - Search every edition of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun-Herald between 1955-1990 for FREE. All articles, captions and advertisements are fully keyword searchable. Search birth, death and marriage notices. A subscription must be purchased to view the articles in full.

Times Digital Archive 1785-1985 - researchers can search through the complete digital edition of The Times (London), using keyword searching and hit-term highlighting to retrieve full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching. Useful for historical information, including family history.

Access Science - McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology. A collection of science reference materials, online and fully searchable. ACCESS Science provides access to all the articles, fully illustrated, from the latest edition of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, Research Updates from the McGraw-Hill Yearbooks, thousands of illustrations, and the latest Science News headlines, biographies, and more. Science Reference Centre - provides easy access to a multitude of full text science oriented content. Contains full text for 640 science encyclopaedias, reference books, periodicals. Standards Australia Online Public Library Service - an online document collection of specifications and procedures designed to ensure quality and establish safety criteria.

Statistics 

Australian Bureau of Statistics - gives full access to 650 Australian Bureau of Statistics publications in Acrobat PDF format, for the period 1998 onwards. The full document can be downloaded within Ryde libraries and Council. The usual copyright laws apply - i.e. a member of the public may not print of the whole document. However, the library can download the full document and add to the Library's reference collection.

id profile logoCommunity Atlas - The Ryde Community Atlas uses interactive maps to present key socio-demographic characteristics of Ryde. The spatial representation of Census data helps identify pockets of difference, patterns and trends across and within the Ryde LGA.

Community Profile - The City of Ryde Community Profile includes results from the 2006, 2001, 1996, and 1991 Censuses of Population and Housing. The City of Ryde Community Profile is designed to inform community groups, investors, business, students and the general public. To achieve this, the Profile is formatted to present the data in simple, clear tables and charts with concise factual commentary.
