Recycling in Eastwood Shopping Centre
The initial installation of Council’s new waste and recycling bin stations is currently being carried out in the Eastwood Town Centre, with more bins proposed to be installed throughout the rest of the City’s shopping centres, later this year.
The bin stations will enable shoppers to dispose of their bottles, cans, newspapers and other recyclable items in an environmentally friendly manner whilst shopping, instead of being mixed with rubbish and going to landfill.
Plastic bags will not be accepted in the recycling bin. Council has developed these new waste and recycling bin stations to enable us to capture the recyclable materials which are pictured below. For more information, see the Public Place Recycling page.

Temporary Road Closure
Council has received an application for the temporary road closure of Blaxland Road, Ryde, at the junction of Blaxland Road and Devlin Street as shown on the map, from 24 October 2008 until June 2009. The closure is required to reduce the safety hazard for northbound vehicles at that junction during the period of road modification works on Devlin Street. Access to residential property will be maintained, but through traffic will not be permitted.
This closure will impact upon vehicles wishing to travel north along Blaxland Road (behind the Ryde Civic Centre) towards Eastwood. Alternative access to Blaxland Road (in a northerly direction) is already available via Devlin Street as indicated on the map.
The removal of this temporary closure notice and the reopening of Blaxland Road at the junction of Blaxland Road and Devlin Street is subject to the RTA being satisfied that its original concerns about safety have been resolved. It is expected that an independent audit will be carried out to validate this.

Closure of Devlin Street Pedestrian Crossing
To ensure public safety and allow for the construction of a new pedestrian bridge, the northern pedestrian crossing on the intersection of Devlin Street and Blaxland Road will be removed from 24 October 2008.
Alternate access to Blaxland Road is as indicated on the map.
The closure of this pedestrian crossing will be permanent, as pedestrian access across Devlin Street is to be provided by two pedestrian bridges. The southern bridge is scheduled to be opened in December 2009, with a second northern bridge to be opened on 3 August 2010.
The two pedestrian bridges will provide disabled all weather access across Devlin Street and will significantly improve pedestrian safety for those accessing the new shopping centre and Ryde Civic Centre and Civic Hall.
