In the lead up to World Environment Day, Ryde Environmental Education Network, (REEN) is holding a Waste-to-Art Competition for students across Ryde.
Want to get creative? Why not convert your recyclables and waste into art? By using packaging waste from your home or creative industrial wastes (from places like “Reverse Garbage” in Marrickville) you can produce a work of art and be in the running for some great prizes.
This year’s theme for entries is “The Environmental SuperHero”. So get creative and produce a piece of art that represents your own Environmental SuperHero, showing how they are helping humans care for nature and our local built environment.
City of Ryde Waste Education Officer, Tori Quine, said: “The challenge is to create something interesting, beautiful or useful from something that would normally be recycled or sent to landfill. There are great prizes to be won, too.”
1st Prize: Macquarie Centre Voucher worth $200 and a free ‘Follow Your Waste’ tour for the winning students’ class to see Chullora Materials Recovery Facilities (cost of bus, driver and tour of the facility are paid for by Council).
Runner’s Up Prizes: 4 runners up will be chosen to receive a Macquarie Centre Voucher worth $50 each.
Competition Guidelines:
- Recyclables and/or Waste can be used (no organic waste allowed)
- Size restriction for artwork = no bigger than 60cm X 60cm X 60cm
- Open to all Primary and High Schools in the Ryde Council area.
