Lieutenant-Colonel Miriam Gluyas Of The Salvation Army To Speak At Community Prayer Breakfast

Members of Christian communities across the City of Ryde will gather to celebrate the annual Community Prayer Breakfast on Friday 14 August.

Special guest speaker at the 18th Annual Prayer Breakfast will be Lieutenant-Colonel Miriam Gluyas a prominent officer of the Salvation Army, whose address of hope in troubled times entitled “Freedom isn’t free – it costs” will focus on stories of how faith sets people free. 

Lt-Col Gluyas is particularly passionate about multi-cultural ministries and spent six years working with refugees and the marginalised in one of her postings.

The Mayor, Clr Vic Tagg, said he was delighted that Lt-Col Gluyas had accepted an invitation to address the gathering.  “The Salvation Army has been in Australia for over 125 years providing pastoral and practical support to the community through good times and bad. 

“Everyone knows their work through the Red Shield Appeal and here in the City of Ryde we are well acquainted with the community services provided through the No. 47 Ivanhoe Place project.”

Biography - Lieutenant-Colonel Miriam Gluyas

Miriam Gluyas grew up in Ballarat in Victoria. After moving to Port Macquarie, Miriam entered The Salvation Army’s Training College in Sydney to become a minister.

Miriam has been a pastor in a local church for most of her ministry and has also worked with youth at the Training College, and as a Divisional Commander (Bishop) in Central North Queensland.

Two highlights of her career have been starting a new church in Newcastle, which grew significantly, and then serving at a thriving multicultural Corps at Auburn for six years, working with refugees, Anglos and the poor and marginalised.

Currently, Miriam is the Secretary for Program at Territorial Headquarters working in the areas of Church and Social Work, Recovery Services, Aged Care, Employment Services, Emergency Services and Red Shield Defence Services.

Miriam is passionate about:
