Knit-In
Friday 7 August, Ryde Civic Centre, 9.00am – 1.00pm
Knitters will converge on the Ryde Civic Centre next month to take part in the finale of the annual ABC Knit-In, which supports the charity Wrap With Love, the group that provides knitted and crocheted rugs to cold people, anywhere in the world.
Knitters have been meeting throughout winter at local libraries with wool, needles and hooks at the ready creating hundreds of colourful woollen squares as part of the community knit-in.
Ryde Library Manager, and keen knitter, Jill Webb, said she was delighted that the City of Ryde had become a satellite centre for the ABC Knit-In. “The Knit-In is a great community event when people of all ages come together to socialise, to pass on knowledge, to create and to provide much needed warmth to those in need. When you see the amazing designs of the finished rugs, you can see just how creative our knitters are and why this event is so popular.”
This year local knitters are hoping to surpass last year’s total of 93 completed rugs.
Anyone wanting to help can attend the monster Knit-In stitch up, at the Ryde Civic Centre, on Friday 7 August, between 9.00am – 1.00pm. Pop in and enjoy a cuppa and lend a hand. Donations of 8-ply acrylic yarn to help stitch the squares together are also welcome.
