Status Of Women In Ryde

Tuesday, 11 August 2009

The City of Ryde is calling for nominations for the newly endorsed Status of Women Advisory Committee.

Anyone with an interest in advocacy for women’s issues, who represents a women’s organisation or has an interest in issues affecting women’s well-being, may apply for membership.

Mayor, Clr Vic Tagg, welcomed the recent move to form the new committee:  "The Status of Women Committee will work to ensure that women’s issues are integrated into the development of Council policies, initiatives and events.

"It is especially important that women’s views and issues influence the Ryde 2030 Strategic Planning process that is currently underway."

The primary role of the Status of Women Advisory Committee is to:

  • Promote the Status of Women in the Ryde LGA
  • Encourage a 'sense of place' for women in the Ryde LGA
  • Foster active participation from women in the Ryde LGA to develop a centralised local networking hub
  • Hold events and support other organised women's events by external groups throughout each year including International Women's Day, which provide a forum for women to voice their concerns and discuss local issues

Nominations for membership of the Status for Women Advisory Committee close on Friday 28 August.  For full details go to the Status of Women Advisory Committee page
