It’s Time To Get Back On Your Bike
Thursday, 27 August 2009
Want to get more active, explore the local bike paths, but not quite confident to get back on your bike?
The City of Ryde and Ryde Health Promotion (NSW Health) are offering limited places in free 3-hour ‘Get Back on Your Bike’ workshops for adults led by an accredited Austcycle trainer to help you increase your skills and confidence.
The Mayor, Clr Vic Tagg said: “We have a great network of bike paths in the City of Ryde, including the award-winning Ryde Riverwalk, offering fantastic views of the district.
"Cycling is an easy way to get 30 minutes of physical activity into your day. It is also a good alternative to short-distance car travel, so you’ll also be helping to cut congestion on our roads, and that helps the environment, too."
The City of Ryde has 318km of roads of which 27.2km are currently designated on-road cycleway routes. The city also has 16.2km of off-road cycleway/shared pedestrian paths.
The free workshop includes:
- maintenance check
- wheel removal
- emergency braking
- how to use gears
- tight turns
- short ride in quiet streets and on pike path
- City of Ryde bike map
Ryde Health Promotion has 60 cycling incentive backpacks to give away full of great cycling gear including cycle computers, local cycle maps, healthy cook book, the healthy waist tape measure.
