Ryde Park’s New Playground And Picnic Area Opens
Thursday, 3 September 2009
Opening of the final landscaping section of the Ryde Park upgrade will take place on Saturday 5 September, with a free sausage sizzle, refreshments, children’s rides and music played in the Rotunda by the Ryde City Concert Band.
“The Council’s work has breathed new life into this popular people’s park with a major $6 million upgrade. The work has greatly improved the Park’s appeal, safety, usability and sustainability, while maintaining and showcasing its heritage links with the community,” said the Mayor, Clr Vic Tagg.
“New walkways, sports fields and facilities are making the Park much more attractive and inviting to sports groups, walkers and regular park users.
“Now, with the completion of the Children’s Playground and Passive Picnic Area – in itself costing around $1 million – the landscaping aspect of the upgrade is complete.”
The City of Ryde is renowned for its excellent parks and open spaces and Council’s long term plans – through Parks on Track for People - will ensure that these highly valued assets are constantly improved and maintained to a high standard for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors.
