International Women's Day Art Competition

The City of Ryde's annual International Women's Day art competition and exhibition celebrates the achievements of artists who live, work, study or play in the City of Ryde.

Entries were invited in all art forms which reflected this year's local International Women's Day theme promoting the Resilience and Empowerment of women and International theme of 'Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures'. The theme focuses on improving the economic, social and political lives of women of the future by enhancing the choices for the girls of today.

Over 100 pieces of art works were submitted, 67 of which were chosen for exhibition. The 2012 prize winners were:

Section A - Open

  • First Prize: Rebecca Fallon - Raindance
  • Second Prize: Christine Shoji - IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma)

Section B - High Schools and TAFE Students

  • First Prize: Bibiana Acevedo - The Yearning for Meaning
  • Joint Second Prize:
    • Eun-Jung Son - Age is but a Number
    • Rebecca Loury - Birds as symbols of immortality
