ENVIRONMENT STRATEGY 2007- 2010

The Council's Committee of the Whole, on 17 July 2007, adopted the City of Ryde Environment Strategy 2007-10. This Strategy is one of the four key strategic documents referred to in the Council's Management Plan 2007-10 and is structured as a high level document that will serve to consolidate how the Council incorporates sustainability considerations and outcomes into its everyday strategic initiatives, systems and processes. In the wider Community the Strategy will enhance public awareness of sustainability principles and encourage active  participation in Council's current and future directions. An important feature of the Strategy is way it attempts to balance the interdependent and mutually inclusive economic and social development issues with related environmental protection and management under a governance framework. It is not intended to be an action plan but rather the Strategy against which action plans are measured against. Section 7 of the Strategy - Implementation and Monitoring Plan provides the link for this to happen is a most efficient way. The Environment Strategy (PDF 3MB) is broken up into four sections:

Section 1

Provides an overview of the Ryde environment and history and describes the City of Ryde’s commitment to an ecological sustainable City.

Section 2

Gives a glimpse into the background of developing the strategy, community involvement and objectives of the Strategy.

Section 3

Describes Council’s approach to corporate and community sustainability through identifying key performance areas and strategies.

Section 4

Provides an overview of the Council’s reporting and evaluation processes for the implementation of the Strategy.
