Proposed amendments to Ryde Development Control Plan (DCP) Part 9.5 Tree Preservation and Proposed change to Council’s Fees and Charges for Tree Preservation Assessment Charges

Draft amendments to Ryde Development Control Plan (DCP) Part 9.5 Tree Preservation are on public exhibition to seek community input. Following a review of Council’s tree management policies and processes, the DCP amendments include the following changes:
  • Allowing the pruning of up to 10% of the crown of a tree in a 12 month period without approval;
  • Amending the approval requirements for works to tree roots;
  • Increasing the distance where tree works can be conducted without approval from 3 to 4 metres from the stem of a tree to a legally constructed dwelling, outbuilding greater than 20m2, carport or pool;
  • Adding specific criteria to consider in the assessment of Tree Management Applications; and
  • Adding further species to the list of trees exempt from requiring approval for tree works/ removal.
 
What is a Development Control Plan (DCP)
A Development Control Plan is a document which contains a set of detailed planning and design guidelines that complements the controls of a local environmental plan (LEP).
 
Proposed change to Council’s Fees and Charges
In accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993, notice is hereby given of Council’s intention to apply the following fees relating to the review of Tree Permit Applications:
  • $25.00 Request for review of determination of Tree Permit Applications - Stage 1 Review (by an alternative Council officer)
  • $40.00 Request for review of determination of Tree Permit Applications - Stage 2 Review (by Council’s Internal Review Panel)
  • $12.50 Request for review of determination of Tree Permit Applications - Stage 1 Review (by an alternative Council officer) - Eligible pensioner discount
  • $20.00 Request for review of determination of Tree Permit Applications- Stage 2 Review (by Council’s Internal Review Panel) - Eligible pensioner discount
The current fee is:
  • $65.50 Request for review of determination of Tree Permit Applications
  • $33.00 Request for review of determination of Tree Permit Applications - Eligible pensioner discount
