Keen photographers of all ages are invited to get snapping and enter the 2009 Urban Nature Photographic Competition, to showcase the Parramatta River Catchment environment and its native animals and plants.
City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Vic Tagg, is looking forward to seeing the results of the competition, where community members get involved and provide a snapshot of the wonders of the Parramatta River Catchment.
“The Urban Nature Photographic Competition encourages people to explore their local environment through the use of photography and demonstrate what makes this unique area special to them. By encouraging communities to capture the beauty and importance of their local animals, plants and natural areas through the lens, communities will gain a greater awareness of the need to protect the local environment and find out about projects they can get involved in,” he said.
As part of the competition a number of workshops will be held to give people an opportunity to learn more about photographic techniques and their local environment.
The competition will culminate in an awards ceremony and exhibition in June and winning photos will be used in a special web gallery promoting the natural beauty of the Parramatta River Catchment.
There are two categories in the competition. These include the Open Section for people over the age of 18 years, and the Young People’s Section for under 18's.
