City of Ryde Bushcare and the new Ryde and Hunter’s Hill Habitat Network are holding a family afternoon of planting and bushwalking. The group will meet at the corner of Cressy and Wellington Roads, Ryde, at 1.00 pm on Sunday 15th March. The planting site in the Field of Mars Reserve is at the far end of Wellington Road. Planting will finish around 3.00 pm.

City of Ryde Bushcare Officer, Sandra Payne said:  “By planting native habitat plants, the group aims to transform the old Pamplin’s Block in the Field of Mars Reserve from a high maintenance mown area into an open habitat area suitable for small native birds such as the cute little Firetail Finch (see photo).   You’ll also learn about native plants suitable for your garden and meet like-minded people from the local community.

“Don’t worry if you have no experience as we will show you what is needed for the plants to have the best chance of survival.”

Bring your family and friends or just yourself. Wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes, a hat and sunscreen.  Tools, gloves, training and some refreshments will be provided.

Another family planting day is planned for Burrows Park, Ryde, around the new footpath on Saturday May 30th.

For more information about these activities, contact Sandra Payne (City of Ryde Bushcare Officer) on 9952 8222 or Bev (co-ordinator of the Habitat Network project) on 0419 206 253 or email info@iewf.org.
