Book Now for Free Child Restraint Checking Day
         Wednesday, 4 March 2009

To help halt the rise of recorded child vehicle passenger casualties, the City of Ryde is holding a FREE Child Restraint Checking Day, as part of the Choose Right, Buckle Right campaign.

The clinic will be held on Sunday 22 March from 9am - 12noon at the Argyle Centre Car Park, Corner Argyle Avenue and Blaxland Road, Ryde.  An RTA Authorised Restraint Fitter will be on site to inspect your child’s car restraints.

Motor vehicle passenger casualties are on the increase.  Since 2004 (which was the lowest recorded motor vehicle passenger casualty figure) they have now increased from 11% to 20%. Children in the  0-16 age group increased dramatically from 9 in 2005 to 18 in 2006.

City of Ryde Road Safety Officer, Emily Burgess stressed that it is the law for everyone to wear seatbelts:  “This includes young children, who need our special protection. Clearly, there is a need for parents and others caring for children to be more aware of the correct installation and use of child restraints.”

The campaign aims to promote the use of child restraints, to increase the awareness of the safety value of restraints and to reinforce the importance of appropriate restraints for each child and correct use.

With the laws for child restraints changing and constantly improving, it is important for parents to be kept up to date on the best way to fit a child in a restraint. Children of all ages and sizes should be adequately restrained in a car.

Bookings are essential so contact City of Ryde’s Road Safety Officer on 9952 8302.
