City of Ryde Establishes Victorian Bushfire Disaster Appeal with $20,000 Donation
         Wednesday, 11 February 2009

The City of Ryde has established a Victorian Bushfire Disaster Appeal with a $20,000 donation.

Mayor, Clr Vic Tagg said that this was a time for the community to come together and support willingly those affected by this tragic event.   “Already, the extraordinary outpouring of goodwill, as never seen before, is testimony to the Australian Spirit and way of life.

“This shocking event has claimed many lives and devastated whole communities, and the health, social and economic affects will continue to demand our long-term financial and psychological support over the coming months and possibly years.

“I ask residents to donate generously to our Victorian Bushfire Disaster Appeal so that we can help these people rebuild their lives and their communities.”

Volunteers will be roaming through the crowds at the “Cinema in the Park” night events (Saturday 14, 21, 28 February and 6 March).

Collection points will also be located at the Ryde Civic Centre, the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre and all Library branches.

All funds raised through the City of Ryde Victorian Bushfire Appeal will be donated to the Australian Red Cross for the specific use of victims of the Victorian bushfires.
