Seniors Week Is 50 Years Young
11 March 2008

The City of Ryde will celebrate Seniors Week’s 50th anniversary with a host of activities, concerts, seminars and multicultural celebrations from late March and through April.

City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Ivan Petch, said:  “Here in the City of Ryde, these celebrations are our way of recognising the valuable contribution seniors make to our community.  The many special events are designed to encourage seniors to meet new people, sharpen their skills and become more involved in social and cultural activities.  As most events are free or at a small charge seniors are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment,” he said.

As well as the highly popular annual Gala Concert to be held on Thur 10 April at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, a new and intriguing event will see Seniors Week and Youth Week unite for “Acoustic Bingo” (Sun 13 April).

“This is a unique combination event for Seniors Week and Youth Week,” said Council’s Manager Community Services, Kevin Moloney.  “Acoustic Bingo presents a great opportunity for the generations to mingle with easy listening music from a local group of young people and bingo sessions, fabulous prizes and a light lunch.”

Full details of the Seniors Celebration Program is contained in the Ryde City View (5 March), on line at www.ryde.nsw.gov.au or phone Customer Service on 9952 8222.  Here is a rundown of what’s on offer:
