1-15 Brush Farm House Presents ‘Consequence’

Exhibition Dates:  1-15 September 2008
Gallery Hours:  Wednesday – Saturday; 12 noon – 4pm
Location:  Brush Farm House Lawson St Eastwood

Brush Farm House and third year fine art students from the Sydney Gallery School Meadowbank present ‘Consequence’, an exhibition by a dedicated group of young artists showing the diversity of contemporary society through photographic mediums.

Consequence delves into the concept of society today as a result of the past, illustrating the consequences of human nature and invention through a range of visual styles and subject matter. Consequence echoes elements of the past and confronts the complexities of living in the 21st century, attaching themselves to modern issues such as social interaction, manipulation of landscape and the ever rising concept of fear and phobia.

Consequence brings the results of our actions to light, revealing the beauty and horrors of what we, as a society have created.

Consequence aims to deliver through primarily photographic images and will be exhibited at Brush Farm House, placing objects of the present in historical aesthetics.

By creating links between the past and the now, the space will be divided between the artists so that you can explore each artist’s concept of Consequence in the modern era.

Consequence is proudly presented by the City of Ryde.

The Granny Smith Festival is produced and managed by the City of Ryde Council and the Granny Smith Festival Committee. The Granny Smith Festival began in 1985 and is now regarded as one of Sydney’s largest street festivals, a true community carnival, full of colour and good old fashioned fun.

The City of Ryde celebrates the life and legacy of one of our district’s most famous citizens, Marie Ann Smith - aka Granny Smith - who, back in 1868, ‘accidentally’ grew the first batch of little green apples that bear her name and are now grown all over the world.

The Granny Smith Festival is supported by local businesses, sporting and service organisations, churches, schools and the wider community. It is an chance for the people and businesses of the City of Ryde to come together and celebrate the history and culture of the area.

The day’s festivities include a grand parade of floats passing through the streets of Eastwood, over 280 stalls of community groups, markets and food outlets, as ell as numerous stages showcasing local live entertainment. Activities include children’s rides, Youth Area, singing star contest, ‘have-a-go’ kids sports and ending with a family concert and fireworks display.
