Council Strategies and Plans that Informed Planning Ryde

Council drew on the adopted plans and strategies below when drafting Planning Ryde:

Community Engagement

How did we ask you for feedback?

Council publicly exhibited the draft Planning Ryde document between 1 July and 12 August 2019, and encouraged the community to have their say during this time. We received feedback on the draft document via:

  • 613 online, hard copy and telephone surveys. Online and hard copy surveys were available in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Hindi and Korean
  • Ten drop in engagement sessions, attended by around 552 people
  • 184 written submissions
  • A focus group attended by 32 community members
  • A workshop attended by 25 members of Council’s advisory committees
  • Social media.

All feedback received from the community during the public exhibition was considered in updating Planning Ryde, and in Council’s deliberation of whether to adopt the final document.

What did we hear?

Key themes heard across all engagement activities included:

  • Infrastructure to keep up with growth
  • More prominence to sustainability
  • Fatigue and frustration with high rise development
  • Diversity of housing to be protected and retained
  • Preference for low density housing
  • Greater ease and connectivity of transport
  • Inclusive and accessible design.
