Ryde Youth Theatre
Newcomers are welcome to come along to a session to give it a try for free!
Ryde Youth Theatre offers a space for young people aged 8 - 26 to explore creativity, build confidence, learn new skills and make new friends.
Through weekly workshops, we will delve into various aspects of drama and performance, with a focus on collaboration and developing ideas for performance. Together we will create an original work to be performed to the public in October each year. No previous experience is necessary.
The workshops are facilitated by established practising artists from Shopfront Arts Co-op, with experience in various disciplines including playwriting, devising, film and movement.
Ryde Youth Theatre is a program delivered by the City of Ryde in partnership with Shopfront Arts Co-op.
Ryde Youth Theatre workshops run during school terms. In 2021, these were:
- Term 2: Monday 19 April - Friday 25 June
- Term 3: Monday 12 July to Friday 17 September
- Term 4: Tuesday 5 October to Friday 17 December
The workshops were divided into two age groups:
- 8 - 14's group which ran on a Monday evening from 5pm to 7pm
- 14 - 26's group which ran on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 9pm
All sessions are held at the West Ryde Hall at 1A Station St, West Ryde. West Ryde Hall is a 6-minute walk from West Ryde train station and is located close to bus stops along Victoria Road.
In 2021, Ryde Youth Theatre were offering Pay What You Can on all workshops. This means you could nominate an amount to pay for your enrolment – our recommended price of $75 is what it would take for us to cover our costs. Newcomers were welcome to come along to a session to give it a try for free!

Shopfront Arts Co-op is the home of youth arts. We stand as Sydney’s only cross-art form organisation led by and dedicated to the artistry of Young People. Shopfront has been running collaborative workshops and amplifying the voices of Young People for over 40 years. Working with established artists, our Young People experience art as valued creators, developing critical thinking and a lifelong love of the arts.
Being a member of Shopfront means you are part of something. Our co-operative is an inclusive community of artists sharing a common goal of making great art (and having a lot of fun along the way).
