The Ryde City Branch of the NSW Justices Association is seeking to increase the membership of Justices of the Peace. Justices of the Peace (JPs) are volunteers appointed by the Governor of New South Wales.
Guidelines to becoming a Justice of the Peace in NSW
JPs are volunteers appointed by the governor of NSW. The primary role of a JP is to witness a person making a statutory declaration or affidavit, and to certify copies of original documents. JPs come from all sections of the community and are available across NSW. Find out more on the Communities & Justice website.
Becoming a JP
You will need to:
- Confirm you eligibility and register at JP Online.
- Complete the JP knowledge test at JP Online.
- Complete the JP appointment application on JP Online. This includes requesting a NSW member of parliament (MP) to consider nominating you.
- If successful you will be appointed for 5-year terms.
The cost of application for an appointment is $132.
