Boronia Park's New Community Hub

Clever design and community involvement have turned an underused section of footpath in Boronia Park shopping village into a vibrant, new community hub.
The Council’s City Activation Team engaged with the community including local businesses, medical centre staff, and the local Boronia Park School to discover the missing elements. Boronia Park School Before & After Care Centre who were eager to paint a “Street Library”.
The Team came up with some simple, fast and low-cost ideas and the transformation has had the desired effect.
Seniors attending the medical centre now have comfortable seating and table to stop for a chat and coffee. Kids – and a few adults – are having fun on the hopscotch. The community chalk board is getting a workout. People are stopping by the new community “Street Library” to pick up or drop off a book.
The brightly painted Dr Seuss-inspired “Street Library” is the pride and joy of students and teachers at the local Boronia Park School Before & After Car Centre who transformed a plain wooden box into a beautiful home for books.
Members of the community, business owners and the students were delighted to be invited to a celebration to launch the new Boronia Park community hub and see their Street Library, hopscotch, and chalkboard in action.
