Christmas cheer for the community and beyond

Published on 03 December 2019

Ryde Park will soon host the City of Ryde’s largest family-friendly Christmas party, with Council’s summer-themed Community Christmas Celebration set to take place on Sunday 8 December 2019.

Entry is free and the event will feature kids craft activities, a giant sandpit, bubble fun and Hula hooping, with a special visit from Santa who will bring gifts for the little ones.

Stage entertainment will include a special Christmas show from Nick Jnr’s Sam Moran, local dance groups and carols. The evening will end with a performance by the Christmas Groove Band, which fuses traditional carols with contemporary hits, featuring classics by Mariah Carey, Babyface and more.

In light of the current drought conditions and catastrophic bushfires in Australia, a barbecue will be held, with all funds raised going to the Country Women's Association of NSW Drought Aid Appeal. Donations will be provided to Australians affected by drought.

Due to water restrictions, the usual water rides will be replaced with inflatable fun to keep the kids entertained all afternoon long. Unlimited ride wristbands will be on sale for $15 and includes a free ice block.

City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jerome Laxale, said this year’s Community Christmas Celebration will be a particularly special one.

“The Community Christmas Celebration is a true celebration of summer and the holiday season, and is a chance for the community to come together and enjoy entertainment and food with the whole family in beautiful Ryde Park”, Clr Laxale said.

“This year I am so pleased there will be an opportunity to give back to those in need, by running a sausage sizzle on behalf of the Country Women’s Association of NSW to help those affected by drought. 100 per cent of the proceeds from the BBQ will go directly to those affected.

“I encourage everyone to come along and grab a seat under the shade of an umbrella or jacaranda tree and enjoy a Christmas-themed afternoon with us”, he said.

Festivities will take place from 3.00pm-7.00pm, with limited parking available at Ryde Park.
