Eastwood Shopping Centre development application approved

The independent Sydney North Planning Panel has approved an application to redevelop the Eastwood Shopping Centre.

Under the approved proposal, the existing shopping centre will be demolished and replaced with a new mixed-use development at 152-190 Rowe Street and 3-5 Rutledge Street that will feature retail, commercial and residential components.

The development will result in the construction of seven new buildings ranging in height from six to 13 storeys. 

It will contain approximately 11,449m of retail space, 3,629m of commercial space including a gym and medical centre, as well as 409 residential apartments. In addition, four levels of basement car parking for 1,035 vehicles will be included as part of the development.

As part of a voluntary planning agreement entered into with the City of Ryde, the developer will also undertake a range of public benefits for Eastwood town centre, including a $5.06 million redevelopment of Eastwood Plaza as well as civic and urban improvements in streets surrounding the existing shopping centre to Council’s specifications. The arbour will be retained and the design will also include a water feature.
