Household Cleanup Collection: Common Mistakes to Avoid

Published on 25 November 2022

Items rejected for the household cleanup collection

Are you decluttering your home and getting ready to book a Household Cleanup Collection? Not all waste materials can be disposed of through a Household Cleanup Collection.

Ensure your collection will be accepted by avoiding these common mistakes.

  • Building, commercial and trade waste are NOT accepted. You can dispose of these materials at the nearest transfer station, hire a skip bin or contact a waste removal company.
  • Bundle and tie your branches and garden organics with no spikes. Your garden organic bundle must be no longer than 1.5 metres in length and 8 cm in diameter. Garden organics placed in bags will go to landfill.
  • Mirrors and large glass items such as glass doors, tables and windows are NOT accepted. Dispose of them at your nearest transfer station.
  • Gas bottles are hazardous when placed in the compactor! Take them to the Community Recycling Centre (CRC) located in Artarmon for free disposal.
  • Paints, chemicals and oils are NOT suitable for a kerbside collection. Drop them off at the CRC or take them to the upcoming Household Chemical CleanOut (City of Ryde residents only).
