New vision for Macquarie Park

The City of Ryde has welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement of its new Place Strategy and Masterplan for Macquarie Park, which will further cement its reputation as an innovation district.

The Department of Planning and Environment collaborated with the City of Ryde, Greater Cities Commission, Transport for NSW and state agencies, with community input, to develop a vision for the future of Macquarie Park.

Under the plan 20,000 new jobs will be created in education, health, technology and advanced manufacturing.

This will be supported by significant infrastructure investment including bus corridors, new parks, sporting fields, open space, footpaths and cycleways.

The masterplan also includes future planning for new residential developments including seven new suburbs being developed to support up to 7,650 homes. Neighbourhood master plans will be created by the Department of Planning and Environment, in continued collaboration with Council, with opportunities for community consultation.

City of Ryde is already home to world-class education and employment institutions including the recently opened Meadowbank Education and Employment Precinct, Macquarie University, Meadowbank TAFE and leading corporates, and this will further boost Macquarie Park's standing.

City of Ryde Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Rylands, says the announcement demonstrates the progress of Ryde as a major CBD.

“We want to further develop a culture of resilience and innovation in Ryde and we will continue to collaborate with the State Government and other stakeholders to deliver benefits for our community and beyond.

“Ryde has a reputation for education and innovation and we will continue to develop as a knowledge city.

“We know that increasing our City’s commercial capacity, supported by appropriate infrastructure, will have positive benefits for ratepayers and our community in general.”

Planning for this project will continue, with the State Government to provide further detailed information on neighbourhood masterplans and future rezoning, including more specific details on open space and height limits, with the community consulted at each step of the process.
