Owning a home based business comes with the benefits of reduced expenses, greater personal freedom and flexibility. However, working solo can be isolating and leave business owners feeling disconnected from their customer and suppliers.

By breaking down barriers that may exist due to isolation, you can reduce anxiety and enhance your business opportunities.

Below are some tips to help you start reconnecting with your stakeholders.

  • Join a local chamber of commerce which can not only connect you to potential customers but also give you access to business resources and advice.
  • Attend networking events such as the free-to-attend Reconnect: Home Based Business Forum and connect with other small business owners. Industry events can provide valuable information to help develop your business, as well as the opportunity to have your questions answered by industry experts.
  • Attend professional training workshops or information sessions run by your local council. The City of Ryde hosts many free events throughout the year to help small business owners in our local government area to keep up to date on relevant information and changes that may affect them, as well as providing opportunities to upskill.
  • Connect with associations related to your industry sector or your ideal customer’s industry.
  • Seek state and federal government opportunities for businesses. This may include business grants and support programs available to your operations and industry.

For more in-depth advice covering this topic in detail, come along to the Reconnect: Home Based Business Forum, presented by the City of Ryde, on Wednesday 17 August at North Ryde RSL. Register online for this free event.

The forum will also cover topics such as growing your business, tapping into your local business chamber for contacts and how to upskill in this ever-changing business and digital environment.

You will also have the opportunity to network and meet representatives from local business chambers, Macquarie University Incubator, Macquarie University PACE program, Service NSW, TAFE Meadowbank and the City of Ryde and Ku-ring-gai Council.
