The City of Ryde has resolved to support a community petition that seeks to amend the Companion Animals Act 1998.
The petition encourages the NSW Legislative Assembly to support the proposed amendment which would result in the following wording added to Section 16 (2) of the legislation:
It is not an offence under this section if the incident occurred:
(f) where a dog is behind a physical barrier such as a fence or enclosure and rushes at or harasses a person or animal
Council, upon receipt of at least 10,000 signatories to the community petition, will present it to the NSW Legislative Assembly for discussion.
