Come and join us for the return of Battle of the Bands – a band competition for young people 12-24 years! This year the winners of Battle of the Bands will a recording studio session to help get their music out there.  

Held at the ever-popular Meadowbank Skate Park as part of Skate Jam, it will be a jam-packed afternoon with skate clinics, a DJ set, live performances and stalls. So, come out and let’s celebrate!

Registrations to enter the competition closed on Friday 31 March. 

This is an Alcohol and Drug Free Event.

Battle of the Bands Competition | Terms and Conditions

  1. Performers must be between 12 and 24 years of age. 
  2. Bands cannot be signed to a record or publishing label.
  3. Bands may only enter one Battle of the Bands event – either Lane Cove OR Ryde.
  4. Panel of Judges from Battle of the Bands event will select winner.
  5. Winners will be awarded a recording studio package and opportunity to play at St Ives Skate Park on Saturday 29 April 2023.
  6. Bands must be available to play at the designated/selected Battle of the Bands event on Thursday 20 April 2023.
  7. All bands competing in the Ryde event must be at the Meadowbank Skate Park by 12.30pm on Thursday 20 April for the line-up, program overview and band briefing.
  8. If performers do not turn up or are late to the event, they will be disqualified.
  9. Complete stage set up is provided on the day. Audio Equipment and Backline will be supplied – 5 piece drumkit, cymbal kit, 2 x guitar amps, mic/stand and 1 x bass amp. Other than that, you will require your own instruments including a keyboard set up if required.  
  10. Bands must supply a stage plot (template provided upon registration) to help the audio engineers with the line-up and specs on request.
  11. This is an alcohol and drug free event. Any performers found under the influence or in possession of alcohol or drugs in or near the performance venue will be immediately disqualified. Security and Police will be on site.
  12. Bands are expected to tailor their performances appropriately for an under 18s audience.
  13. All material presented is to be original, or original artist properly acknowledged.
  14. Bands will have 15 minutes of performance and 10 minutes of setup/changeover. Times may be altered if unforeseen situations arise. Bands may be interrupted if they go over their allocated time and points may be deducted from their scores.
  15. The judge’s decision is final and no arguments will be entered into.
  16. Bands will be selected from their demo link which should be supplied upon application. A total of 5 bands will be selected from these links. Demos can be a link to a Youtube or Social Media recording/video, Cloud File (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox etc.) or any other recording of your music (partial or full) that is accessible via link.
  17. Due to the popularity of the contest absolute preference is given to bands from the Northern Sydney region which includes Mosman, North Sydney, Ryde, Lane Cove, Ku-ring-gai, Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Willoughby and the Northern Beaches. Other outside area bands will only be considered if places are available.
  18. Competing bands will be judged on the following five categories: Musicality, Stage Presence & Personality, Original Material, Professionalism and Overall Quality of Performance.
  19. Organisers take no responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged equipment. Do not leave it unattended at any time.
  20. Participants indemnify Ryde Council and its agents for any actions, claims or demands of any kind resulting in personal injury, property loss or actions of band members. It is advised that venues are covered under council public liability insurance coverage. Band members are advised to seek their own legal advice on their personal insurance requirements.
  21. Bands and band members (and their parent/guardian if under 18 years) agree to allow information, photos and video taken at events and recording sessions to be used for advertising or promotional purposes.

  • You will receive a confirmation email confirming acceptance of your application after the application close date – Friday 31 March.
