Bike Week: Essential Skills and Commuting Workshop

Come along to one or both of our Essential Skills courses. In the morning we’re holding an essential skills and commuting course for people who want to increase their confidence and start riding more often. In the afternoon you can learn the essentials of bike maintenance, so you’ll be prepared for whatever happens.

Participants are welcome to attend for both workshops. Bookings essential - call 9952 8222. 
Free lunch will be provided for participants from 12 noon.

Essential Skills and Commuting Workshop

Brush up on the basics and get back on your bike. Includes a guided off-road ride.

This workshop is designed for those who can ride a bike, but who would like to improve confidence and basic skills to enjoy riding more often.

It covers the basic skills required to ride a bike on shared user paths or cycle ways and quiet back streets, with practical emphasis on increasing confidence. You will learn basic techniques including starting, stopping, cornering, one handed riding (for signalling) slow riding and manoeuvring. 

The workshop will finish with an easy guided ride on local off-road shared user paths and cycle ways.

Gear requirements:

  • A mechanically sound bicycle.
  • An Australian standards approved helmet.
  • Footwear should be fully enclosed, have a non-slip sole and suitable for cycling activities.
  • Bring a bicycle pump if you have one.
