Clean Up Australia Day for Schools

A Schools Clean Up is a great way to inspire your students to learn about the impact of rubbish on their local environment while playing an active role in their community.

It's a day when students and teachers work together to clean up an area which is special to you. It can be the playground, a local park, or maybe bushland near your school - the choice is yours.

Benefits of participating include:

  • Sense of pride and achievement gained from contributing positively to the local environment.
  • Positive local role models through which schools can demonstrate the importance of community participation and environmental responsibility.
  • A sense of belonging to the community, as well as generating patriotism and national pride in Australia.
  • This is an all-inclusive event.
  • Helps to educate and inform Australians about the impact of rubbish in our environment.
  • Great team building opportunity for school participants.
  • Fosters local partnerships between Council and local schools.
  • A social day where schools can spend time with their students and staff.

  • Each registered site will be provided with a Schools Clean Up Day Kit which includes marketing material, bags, gloves and sharps containers, teaching resources and documentation for use by staff and students on the day.
  • BYO water, water bottle and sunscreen.
  • Clothing must be suitable for physical activity. Hats must be worn.
  • Footwear must be enclosed, non-slip sole and suitable for physical activity. NO thongs, sandals or open toed shoes.
  • All volunteers must sign the Volunteer Registration Form before commencing the activity on the day, regardless of whether they have registered online or not. This form must be signed and the volunteer is required to declare any pre-existing medical conditions.
  • Volunteers must cooperate with and follow the directions of Site Supervisors, Clean Up Australia and Council officers for the maintenance of a safe volunteering environment.
  • Registered and participating schools are required to make their own arrangements to dispose of the waste collected on their school ground. Please contact council on 9952 8222 if you wish to make arrangements for a Clean Up site external to your school grounds.
