Household Chemical CleanOut

Chemicals and e-waste

New e-waste drop-off trial! Dispose of your E-waste at our new E-waste drop-off trial 2023!

This year, Council will be trialling an e-waste drop-off in combination with the NSW EPA Household Chemical Cleanout event.

The e-waste collection will be a trial with limited capacity, once collections reach maximum capacity on the day, e-waste collections will cease accepting items.

There are alternate ways to drop off your e-waste, you can book a free collection via Council’s TV and Computer Collection Service or drop off for free at the Community Recycling Centre in Artarmon.

Don't throw household chemicals and electronic items in the garbage, incinerator, down drains or sinks, down toilets or outside in the gully traps. They can harm your family and the environment.

Dispose of your old chemicals safely by taking them to one of the free Household Chemical CleanOut drop-off days. CleanOut drop-off days operate in different Council areas around Sydney throughout the year.

Transporting your materials safely

Transporting your materials safely to a CleanOut collection is important. Here are some top tips for safe storage and transportation:

  • Ensure containers are clearly labelled and well-sealed. If you don’t know the contents, label the container ‘UNKNOWN CHEMICAL’.
  • Wherever possible keep all chemicals in their original containers.
  • Never mix chemicals as this may produce dangerous reactions.
  • Liquid can leak during transportation. Wrap old or damaged containers in newspaper, place in a sturdy plastic bag and then in a plastic container or tray.
  • Keep household chemicals away from passengers e.g. in the boot.
  • Note: due to safety considerations, chemical drop offs will only be permitted in motor vehicles. No walk in or bicycle drop offs will be permitted.

On the Day

  • Be patient, there may be some wait times on the day.
  • Listen to directions given by staff on the day.
  • Abusive behaviour towards staff will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave without being able to drop off items.
  • Stay in your car at all times, staff will remove your items from your car as directed.
  • If you have both E-Waste and chemical items to drop off, please ensure they are separated appropriately or advise staff what to take and what not to take.
