The City of Ryde’s Draft Permit Parking Policy is on public exhibition for community comment. This draft policy aligns Council with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) guidelines regarding permit parking schemes.

WHY IS AN UPDATED POLICY REQUIRED?

RMS recently updated its Permit Parking Guidelines, and it is mandatory for Council’s permit parking schemes to comply with the RMS guidelines and associated legislation.

WHAT CHANGES ARE IN THE POLICY?

One of the changes that residents will notice is a new method for determining permit entitlement (number of permits) per household.

If you meet the eligibility criteria under the new policy, your household will be entitled to a maximum of TWO (2) resident parking permits per household minus the number of parking spaces on your property. The majority of households within the City of Ryde have access to at least two off-street parking spaces, generally comprising of a garage and driveway area in front of the garage.

Residents may be eligible for up to THREE (3) resident parking permits minus any available on-site parking, if they can establish they have three (3) or more vehicles registered to their property.

ARE THESE ALL THE PERMITS I’M ENTITLED TO?

As part of the new permit parking policy, all residents within resident parking zones will be entitled to ONE (1) visitor parking permit per household.

WHEN WILL THE POLICY COME IN TO EFFECT?

It is expected that the new Permit Parking Policy will come into effect on 1 January 2020, with renewals of existing permits to commence on 1 July 2020.

Since 30 June 2019, residents have not been able to purchase additional residential permits, and this restriction will remain in place.

Have Your Say

Please note whilst the policy is on public exhibition for comment, the changes in the policy are required to ensure compliance with the RMS Permit Parking Guidelines Version 4.0, which is a mandatory requirement for all Councils in NSW.

All submissions must be received by Wednesday 20 November 2019.
