What is The Hive?

The Hive Digital Media Lab is a free Library service that provides access to industry standard software for creative projects to library members. The Hive offers individually bookable PCs and will benefit all members of the community. Headphones and midi keyboard are available for loan at the desk.

Please note: printing facilities are limited to A4 and A3 standard printers. If your final product requires printing in other sizes then it is recommended you take it to a professional printing service.

Using The Hive

The Hive is located at West Ryde Library located at 2 Graf Avenue, West Ryde and is open to all members of the community that have a library membership. It operates during West Ryde Library's normal opening hours.

  • Users can book a two-hour session as per daily allowance
  • Extensions can be offered by staff, provided further use is intended for a creative project the user is working on. Subject to availability

Bookings for The Hive computers can be placed online or through the booking station. If you are not yet a member of City of Ryde Libraries then you can join up for free online.

The Hive is monitored by City of Ryde Libraries staff. Bookings outside of the intended use, or in breach of State Library policies may not be honoured.

Do you offer workshops?

We currently do not provide any training for the software available in The Hive, though the self-directed learning model is supported through the provision of a ready reference library of books related to available software and website links for online learning platforms.
