Expressions of Interest are sought from the community for interested parties to establish and maintain a Community Vegetable Garden at an appropriate agreed site in Putney.
Community gardening is identified as a valuable recreational activity which contributes to the health and well-being of the community and provides a range of environmental, social and educational benefits. Community gardens are established and self-managed by gardening groups and other partnering organisations.
The City of Ryde will support groups establishing a Community Garden by helping with identification of land, horticultural advice and liaison services. Experience has shown that the most successful Community Gardens are where the community or group has ownership of the project, making their own decisions on budgets, planning and the nature of the garden.
A Community Garden project requires submission of a Development Application(PDF, 189KB), in which various considerations must be addressed and specific information provided, including site plans and a Statement of Environmental Effects.
