Revitalisation of Top Ryde City
The new Top Ryde City shopping centre opened in August 2010. It is Australia’s largest retail development occupying a 3.5-hectare site on the corner of Devlin Street and Blaxland Road with 78,215 square metres of retail space.
Construction included three vehicular tunnels under Devlin Street to provide uninterrupted access to the centre’s carpark as well as two pedestrian bridges.
The centre boasts an open, spacious design housing around 300 retailers and over 3000 undercover car spaces.
Features include:
- Four levels of retail circling a six storey atrium, allowing natural light through the centre
- An outdoor fashion promenade, La Strada, running the entire length of the centre
- An entertainment and dining precinct, La Piazza, located at the northern end of the centre with open-air dining
- Water features and public artworks
Stage One, consisting of the food court and retailers on the two lower ground levels, opened in November 2009.
Stage Two, opened in March 2010, delivered an additional 60 stores, including new offices for the local Australia Post and TAB and four major banks. The first section of La Strada also opened at this time.
Stage Three opened in August 2010 with two more levels of retail including Myer, the completed La Strada fashion precinct and the first of the restaurants in La Piazza.
Final works were completed in February 2011, delivering:
- Cinemas and bowling
- Childcare and medical centres
- Gymnasium
- The new Ryde Library
- The Ryde Planning and Business Centre.
The centre was officially opened by the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, on 20 August 2010.
