City of Ryde is seeking feedback on a proposal to install traffic warning signs and road centre raised reflective pavement markers (RRPMs) on Higginbotham Road between Cressy Road and Nelson Street, Ryde.

WHAT ARE THE PROPOSED CHANGES?

The proposal includes the following improvements:

  • ‘35km/hr’ warning sign
  • ‘Right Curve Ahead’ warning sign
  • ‘Slippery When Wet’ warning sign
  • Two (2) sets of east and west facing “Chevron Alignment Makers’ located on the northern side of Higginbotham Road, fixed to the existing power poles.

Additional yellow bi-directional RRPMs will also be included through the road curve.

WHY IS THE CHANGE BEING CONSIDERED?

There is a crash history of drivers losing control of their vehicle on Higginbotham Road on approach to and through the road curve between Cressy Road and Nelson Street, Ryde. Council recently commissioned a Road Safety Audit review for this segment of road. The Road Safety report recommended short-term mitigation strategies which include installing the proposed new warning signs and enhancing the centre of the road delineation to encourage lower speed and discourage reckless driving behaviour.
