Mayor's Community Message

28 May

SAVE OUR OPEN SPACE

On Monday 2 June 2025, the Sydney North Planning Panel will be deliberating over a resubmitted proposal to rezone the iconic 6.2ha TG Millner Fields site in Marsfield from RE2 – Private Recreation to a combination of R2 – Low Density Residential and RE1 – Public Recreation.

If approved, this could open a new pathway for the landowner North Ryde RSL and developer Winston Langley to move ahead with plans to construct 132 low rise dwellings on the site, despite the fact this proposal has already been twice rejected at state level.

I want you to know that I am continuing to work hard on your behalf to retain TG Millner as essential public open space, maintaining Council’s commitment to ‘strike the right balance’ between housing uplift and crucial accompanying infrastructure.

I am preparing an open letter to key stakeholders in State and Federal Government outlining this community’s overwhelming desire to keep TG Millner as a place for our growing population to enjoy, particularly as State Government rezoning at the nearby Macquarie Park Innovation District (MPID) threatens an exponential increase in housing density over coming years.

The existing and future residents of the MPID deserve a place for families to picnic, for kids to kick a ball, and for local sporting teams to call home.

My open letter will be available to read from Saturday 31 May at. See my open letter by clicking here.

HAVE YOUR SAY

I am encouraging all interested residents to read and have your say on a number of important Council documents currently on public exhibition.

Those documents – which include our Community Strategic Plan 2035, Four-Year Delivery Program 2025-2029, One Year Operational Plan 2025-2026, Long Term Financial Plan 2025-2035, and Fees and Charges 2025-2026 – outline Council’s short-, medium-, and long-term plans and strategies.

RYDE TREE DAY

Join me at Looking Glass Bay Park on Saturday 31 May between 10.00am and 12.00pm to celebrate Ryde Tree Day.

As part of World Environment Day, we’ll be replenishing a key wildlife corridor and you’ll be able to then keep watch as the plantings flourish over time into a haven for our local native animals.

All tools, gloves and training will be provided - just bring your enthusiasm!
