Upcoming Traffic Change
Council is in the final stages of planning the upcoming traffic change which will occur in a few weeks’ time. Council will soon distribute an additional notification letter to the community with further details of the traffic change, including the confirmed date of implementation and detour routes. Closer to the date, Council will also install variable message signs throughout the Constitution Road corridor to prepare road users of the upcoming traffic change.
What the Works Will Deliver
The upgrade will transform Constitution Road between Hamilton Crescent and Bank Street, Meadowbank, delivering a range of long-term benefits for residents, businesses, and visitors to the area.

Construction Timing
Construction is expected to:
- Commence: June 2026 (subject to final pre-construction activities)
- Duration: Approximately 18 months
- Completion: Around December 2027
To minimise disruption, works will be delivered in stages. Community will be notified well in advance of the work starting on any part of the project. Traffic management plans will be in place to maintain access for residents, businesses, and emergency services wherever possible.

Funding and Investment
The Constitution Road Infrastructure Upgrade Project cost is estimated at $24 million, and funded through a combination of:
- Commonwealth Government grants
- NSW Government grants
- Developer contributions
- City of Ryde funding, including the Section 7.11 Roads and Traffic Management Reserve.
This coordinated funding approach enables Council to deliver major infrastructure improvements that support the continued growth and liveability of the Meadowbank precinct.
The Constitution Road Infrastructure Upgrade Project is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Department of Planning - Accelerated Infrastructure Fund Round, Department of Regional Development - Infrastructure Betterment Fund (IBF), Commonwealth Regional Roads & Transport Recovery Package and Transport for NSW.
Although funding for this project has been provided by both the NSW and Australian Governments, the material contained herein does not necessarily represent the views of either government.

April 2026 - Construction Contractor Awarded
The City of Ryde is continuing to progress the Constitution Road Infrastructure Upgrade Project, a major investment to improve traffic capacity, road safety, pedestrian and cyclist connectivity, and the public domain within the Meadowbank precinct.
Following extensive community consultation, technical investigations and detailed design, Council has reached a significant milestone in delivering of the project.
At its meeting on 24 February 2026, Council approved the appointment of Mack Civil as the construction contractor for the Constitution Road Infrastructure Upgrade Project, following a competitive public tender process. This contract represents best value for money and ensures the works can be delivered by an experienced contractor with demonstrated capability in complex urban environments.
