Disability Inclusion Action Plan
The City of Ryde Council along with the Councils of Hunters Hill and Lane Cove have developed a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) to meet the State Government's Disability Inclusion Act 2017 requirements.
This Plan will ensure a whole of Council approach to effectively deliver on the diverse needs of people with a disability in our community; that people living with a disability have access to information, services, Council buildings, facilities, employment opportunities and community programs and events.
If you have a query regarding the Action Plan please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Customer Service on 9952 8222.
Social Inclusion Week - Collaborate, Connect & Celebrate
The City of Ryde along with our partners celebrated Social Inclusion Week (19 – 27 November 2016) by hosting a series of events in the community, internally within Council, and with the business/corporate sector. These events included:
Social Inclusion Is Good For Business - highlights included the launch of Council's Social Inclusion and Diversity Checklist
This event targeted business/corporate sector senior executives and human resource managers in the Macquarie Park and North Ryde area. The session covered presentations about why social inclusion is important in creating 'inclusive communities', how social inclusion is good for business, tips on inclusive marketing strategies and what the NDIS means for business. Film Screenings and Conversations @ Ryde Library
This session featured the films Unified Ryde, Footprints: Remembering Ivanhoe Estate and Our Space, which explore the residents of Ryde and their experiences of inclusion.
One Thousand Wishes Project
A project to promote social inclusion to the wider community, over 1,200 origami horses were created by community members and groups across the local government area to form a two piece artwork by Artisans Ryde. Each horse contains a wish written on paper before folding it into a unique and beautiful origami horse and opened up conversations about social inclusion and diversity amongst the participants. The final artwork has been made available at Council libraries for public viewing before being permanently located at the West Ryde Community Hub.
