The City of Ryde has officially opened the new Meadowbank Park Regional Playground to the public, providing a new state-of-the-art facility that is accessible and inclusive to all children.

The new playground is located next to the Meadowbank Skate Park and features a range of fun and engaging features, including:

  • A water park with a splash pad and interactive water play elements
  • More than 35 metres of elevated climbing equipment
  • Sand play with interactive sand play elements including a sand pit and sand digger
  • Nature play zone with fixed sensory play panels, steppers and balancing logs
  • A quiet zone for passive play including story telling.

The playground also features picnic shelters which includes accessible seating, as well as shade sails and new trees. It is also fenced to enhance the inclusive nature of the design.

In addition to the new playground, a new amenities building at Meadowbank Park has also opened to the public, providing a new hub to service sporting groups who use the adjacent sports fields.

The building includes accessible facilities for people with disabilities and their carers. The building was also designed in accordance with the State Sporting Organisations’ facility guidelines to make them female friendly.

Both the playground and the amenities building were built by Glascott Landscape and Civil on behalf of the City of Ryde with grant funding support from the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund.

City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jordan Lane, said the new facilities made Meadowbank Park one of the premier open spaces in the region.

“The new Meadowbank Park Regional Playground is going to be extremely popular with the City of Ryde community. It has already received rave reviews with Ryde District Mums declaring it Sydney’s best playground, and from feedback I’ve heard in the community, our residents agree,” Clr Lane said.

“With the Meadowbank Skate Park and now this fantastic new playground, Meadowbank Park is a leading open space with features that appeal to people of all ages and abilities.

“I would like to thank the NSW Government whose funding support made this new playground a reality and ensured our community now has access to superb play facilities both now and for generations to come. It is a true demonstration of what can be achieved when different levels of government work together constructively.”

The opening of the Meadowbank Park Regional Playground was marked with a celebration earlier today featuring a range of fun activities for children.
