Meadowbank Skate Park – Lighting Extension Trial

Closing on 06 October 2025, 11:59 PM

Meadowbank Skate Park

As part of the City of Ryde’s broader commitment to encourage active and healthy lifestyles, Council is conducting a trial to extend the lighting hours at Meadowbank Skate Park.

As part of the trial, lighting will be extended by one hour to 8.00pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from Thursday 5 June 2025 to Saturday 4 October 2025.

Council invites your feedback on the extended lighting hours during the trial period.

What does the trial involve?

During non-daylight-saving months, the lighting at the skate park operates manually from 4.30pm – 7.00pm. Users activate the lights by pressing a button within the park. If the button is not activated, the lights remain off.

For the duration of the trial, the lighting system will be programmed to extend the automatic shut-off to 8.00pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings only. The existing 7.00pm shut-off time will continue to apply from Sunday to Wednesday.

Why is Council trialling extended lighting times?

The trial was endorsed at the Extraordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday 30 April 2025, as part of Council’s broader initiative to encourage active and healthy lifestyles. The extended lighting hours aim to improve access to recreational facilities during the evening, particularly in the cooler months when daylight is limited.

Did community engagement occur prior to the trial?

At Council's meeting on 31 January 2022, Council noted a petition received requesting a consultation process on the extension of the lighting at the skate park. It was resolved at this meeting that Council would undertake comprehensive community engagement, which then occurred from 17 March 2022 to 20 April 2022. The engagement included an online survey, notification to nearby residents, signage in Meadowbank Park and five drop-in sessions at the Skate Park site.

Outcomes from the community engagement were presented at the 24 May 2022 Council Meeting. It was resolved to defer the matter until further community engagement occurred prior to a permanent change to the lighting hours coming into affect.
