At the start of 2022, the City of Ryde successfully secured grant funding from the NSW Government to undertake a litter reduction project at Meadowbank Park and Kissing Point Park. The project aims to upgrade and add new waste infrastructure, beautify the aforementioned parks, and raise community awareness of anti-littering behaviour.

As part of this project, Council is trialling two solar powered smart compaction street waste bins in popular recreational areas. These bins use solar power to compact the contents, and alert waste collectors when the bin is ready to be serviced. The enclosed design makes it impossible for wildlife to scavenge from the bins, and they can be operated with a foot pedal for hygienic waste disposal.

With six times the capacity of a regular street bin, these bins will make it easier for everyone to enjoy a clean environment even on busy weekends. With your help, we can keep Ryde beautiful and litter free.

This project is funded by the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
