Council is seeking feedback on the proposal to relocate the existing Disabled Parking Spaces in the Midway Shopping Centre car park.
The proposed parking changes:
Council is proposing to relocate the existing Disabled Parking spaces in the Midway Shopping centre car park from the southern end of the car park to the northern end, adjacent to the existing loading zone.
Council engaged an independent consultant to assess the current and proposed disabled parking arrangements to ensure compliance with the Australian Standards for “Parking Facilities” including a shared area adjacent to the disabled parking space for accessibility. The following options are being considered:

Option 1 - Relocate one (1) disabled parking space from the southern end of the car park to the northern end, adjacent to the loading zone. This will result in the loss of one (1) standard parking space. The final arrangement will include two disabled parking spaces (with shared areas) and five (5) standard parking spaces.

Option 2 – Relocate the two (2) disabled parking spaces from the southern end of the car park to the northern end, adjacent to the loading zone. The same number of standard parking spaces will remain. The final arrangement will include two (2) disabled parking spaces (with shared areas) and six (6) standard parking spaces.

Option 3 – Do not relocate the disabled parking spaces and keep the existing parking arrangement.

Why was the change initially considered?
Council has received requests from the community to improve accessibility for visitors with Mobility Parking Permits to the shopping centre. Following further investigations, Council identified locations to relocate the disabled parking spaces within the car park to improve accessibility. To address this concern, Council is proposing to relocate one or both (2) of the disabled Parking Spaces from the southern end of the car park to the northern end adjacent to the loading zone or retain the current parking arrangement.
